Marco Bonitta has reconsidered. The technical head of the Women's National Volleyball Team has communicated that on the list of athletes, who on Wednsesday will be heading to the Rio Olympic Games 2016, will be the name of Alessia Gennari and not that of Valentina Diouf, as had previously been announced.
"When I met the team at the end of the last set of games I explained that I would make a definitive decision before leaving for Brazil. I informed Valentina Diouf at that point that I was considering replacing her with Alessia Gennari, a purely technical decision which was not dictated by any behavioural or physical issues with Valentina. In the last week, Alessia, who has been recovering from a knee operation, has made important progress. I have carefully reflected upon the make-up of the group and it could be important to have the element of versatility at our disposal. At that point I had to choose who to exclude and the choice came down to Centoni and Diouf, and after considering many factors I made my decision. I completely understand Valentina's bitter disappointment, but the job of the technical head is to arrive at the major events with what they consider to be the best team possible, and I am convinced that I have chosen for the best".
