The Italian athletics team that will be competing in the 31st Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro has been defined. Adding to the list already announced last week (from which sadly the name of the injured Giammarco Tamberi had to be eliminated), and following positive outcomes over the weekend are Sonia Malavisi (Fiamme Gialle, pole), Margherita Magnani (Fiamme Gialle, 1500m), and Marco Lingua (Marco Lingua 4ever, hammer). As regards Silvano Chesani (Fiamme Oro, high jump) and Yadisleidy Pedroso (Aeronautica, 400hs), both part of the selection, it should be stressed that their effective participation in the Games is connected to a positive development in their fitness conditions. Excluded from the Olympic team instead are weight lifter Chiara Rosa (Fiamme Azzurre) and the triple jump athlete Fabrizio Schembri (Carabinieri), the last two athletes to undergo evaluation by FIDAL’s Technical Management. Finally, the participation in the Games of race walker Alex Schwazer is subordinate to the decisions of the TAS.
This is the list of the Italian participants (15 men and 23 women): Giordano Benedetti, Teodorico Caporaso, Jamel Chatbi, Silvano Chesani, Marco De Luca, Eseosa Desalu, Fabrizio Donato, Juri Floriani, Matteo Galvan, Matteo Giupponi, Stefano La Rosa, Marco Lingua, Davide Manenti, Daniele Meucci, Ruggero Pertile, Chiara Bazzoni, Catherine Bertone, Maria Elena Bonfanti, Marzia Caravelli, Maria Benedicta Chigbolu, Dariya Derkach, Ayomide Folorunso, Eleonora Anna Giorgi, Libania Grenot, Gloria Hooper, Anna Incerti, Veronica Inglese, Margherita Magnani, Sonia Malavisi, Marta Milani, Antonella Palmisano, Yadisleidy Pedroso, Elisa Rigaudo, Desiree Rossit, Yusneysi Santiusti Caballero, Maria Enrica Spacca, Valeria Straneo, Alessia Trost.
