Biography
Nicknamed ‘The Butterfly of Orzinuovi’ or ‘The Cannibal’, she is the first Italian gymnast to have won a gold at the 2006 World Championships in Aahrus. She then went on to win another four world championship medals plus 10 European medals. At 25 she is the captain and veteran of the Italian team and, in Rio, she will break another record: that of being the third Italian gymnast to have competed in three different editions of the Games, after Miranda Cicognani and Monica Bergamelli. She stars in a music video, a docu-reality series and she has authored her autobiography “Effetto farfalla” (The Butterfly Effect). She was able to qualify for the Olympic competition despite having passed a nightmarish season hindered by a mononucleosis and problems with her Achilles tendon. But she had to come to Brazil at all costs, in pursuit of a medal, which she almost won in London and which could further add to her collection.
