The Italian épée in Rio will speak Sicilian. The Italian athlete, indeed, was born 27 years ago in Catania, as Paolo Pizzo, of whom he was best man at his wedding, and not far from Acireale, the city of Marco Fichera. Youth world champion and world bronza in individual épée, in Brazil he puts his weapon at the service of the Italian cause. His brother Daniele, also a fencer (though foil rather than épée), is his first supporter. His first school was the Acireale Fencing Club, under Master Raffaele Manzoni. Thanks to him he learnt to understand the roots of his sport and of duels to “first blood”. He now wants to throw his gauntlet down on the platform at the Games.
