She turned eighteen in December and already has a shelf full of trophies (a Junior World Championship, a Youth and a silver medal at the Youth Olympics). Yet, the Italian from Torre Annunziata lives it all with the confidence of one who knows she’s making history: she is the first Italian female boxer to take part in an Olympic event. Her passion for boxing began at the age of 12 also thanks to her sister Lucia and it then became her “oxygen”; the ring, the space in which “The Butterfly” flutters. She is attending the last year of Commercial College and loves to read biographies (her favourites are those of Charlie Chaplin and Frida Kahlo). When she “grows up” she wants to continue her career in the police force, maybe even the central security forces or the flying squad. First though, having overcome all prejudice, she’s going to Rio to step on the podium. After all, boxing and medals can be part of a female world.
