The 13 Italian athletes for Rio. The Italian women's national waterpolo team, nicknamed the Setterosa, debuts on the 9th of August against Brazil
Head coach Fabio Conti announced the thirteen athletes who will represent the "Setterosa" at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro at the end of the Benu Cup. The team has been confirmed that won the bronze medal at the European Championships in Belgrade and the Olympic qualification competition in Gouda and 12 of the 13 bronze medal winners from the World Championships in Kazan. Absent from the 15 who participated in the Benu Cup are Laura Barzon (who had replaced the injured Aleksandra Cotti at the Worlds) and Valeria Palmieri.

Format: 8 teams divided into two groups of four; round-robin tournament followed by quarterfinals (first against fourth and second against third). Then the semi-finals and finals.
