Mirco Scarantino and Giorgia Bordignon will represent Italy for Weightlifting at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The Italian Weightlifting Federation assigned the two places guaranteed by the two Olympic cards obtained by the Italia team.

This is Scarantino’s second Olympic Games attendance after London 2012 (where he was the only competing Italian weightlifter) and the 21-year-old athlete from Sicily arrives in Brazil as the European 56 Kg champion, a title gained last April in Forde (Norway). On the other hand, the Rio Games mark Bordignon’s Olympic debut, after she won a bronze medal in the 63 kg category in the last European championship.

The Italian athletes who are certain to participate in Rio 2016 have gone up to 271 (142 men, 129 women) in 27 different disciplines, with 172 individual passes.
