Born and raised in Livorno, the 28-year-old has swimming in his veins thanks to his parents, both former swimmers. And his girlfriend, Chiara Masini Luccetti is also a swimmer (in the Italian national team). In his free time, he likes watching movies, skiing and supporting his favourite football team, Inter. Suspended for two years for having tested positive in connection with the use of eye-drops, instead of becoming disheartened, he took advantage of the forced break to earn a degree in Economy and Legislation of Logistic Systems. After having swum and suffered in silence, he finally emerged to win a European bronze in the 400m mixed race in 2014. At the national championships in Riccione he recorded one of the finest international performances of the year. In Rio, the ‘Turro’ will certainly leave his mark.
