Italy and Brazil meet
The artists invited to take part to the Horizontal project at Casa Italia were chosen in relation to their ability to express empathy and identity through their work.
Guests will follow the bridge from the entrance to the sea, in a challenging yet rewarding path, full of ideas, works, intellectual insights.
ENTRY
From the entrance in the district of Joatinga, guests are accompanied by the sculptures by Marco Raparelli representing the audience of sport. Everything evokes the idea of integration between Italy and Brazil, from the long bridge connecting the land to the rock of Casa Italia, upon which the work "+39", a tricolor in neon by Vedovamazzei and "Towards you" by the duo Bianco-Valente. The first, iconic and representative of Italy, and the second, which best expresses the idea of the physical and cultural approach to Brazil.
THE CORRIDOR
The tour continues with the unique "Welcome" by Piero Golia. Everything is blended with an icon of Italian design, the Bocca sofa, designed in 1970 by Studio 65 Gufram.
THE RESTAURANT
The installation Horizontal by Davide D'Elia leads to the restaurant. In the great hall, on the walls, "Atalanta and Hippomenes" by the Brazilian artist Vik Muniz, represents an icon moment: a rigged race between the fast Atalanta and her suitor Hippomenes.
THE ROOF GARDEN
On the Roof Garden, the monumental sculpture "Prisms" by Giuseppe Gallo: a collection of real and invented carnival masks made of bronze. These 26 sculptures represent the tradition of the carnival, born in Italy, but played up by the Olympics host country to the point of becoming one of the most important attractions of the city. An example of true contamination and virtuous import.
